7 Biggest & Boldest Hairstyles in Television: Emmy Edition
The biggest day in television is almost here. And if there’s one thing we can count on when it comes to the Emmys, it’s good hair. This year, we’re proud to announce the winners of the Best Hair award from the leading and supporting actor nominees. Here are the seven biggest and boldest hairstyles in television.
Rami Malek as Elliot in Mr. Robot
When you think of TV hairstyle trends, Jennifer Anniston or Farrah Fawcett might come to mind. This year, Rami Malek is setting the trends of the season with an edgy undercut that reflects his character’s rebelliousness and precision.
Tracee Ellis Ross as Rainbow Johnson in black-ish
Black female actresses have rarely been encouraged to wear their hair naturally on television, according to Tracee. But these days, we’re seeing a lot more big and beautiful hair on the screen. Tracee Ellis Ross’ character on black-ish has at least one thing in common with Tracee: her hair. It’s worn simply and without much fuss, just as she wears it in real life. We only wish our hair looked this good naturally.

William H. Macy as Frank Gallagher in Shameless
Though Frank Gallagher may not be the kindest or most ambitious person on television, he’s definitely got some gorgeous locks (when washed). We love that William H. Macy can still rock a full head of long hair at age 66.

Robin Wright as Claire Underwood in House of Cards
Style is a huge part of what makes Claire Underwood such an iconic character. And her haircut is no exception. She wears a bold and uniquely elegant pixie cut that reflects her devotion to her art: politics. Her haircut also isn’t traditionally feminine, which is echoed in her dangerous and daring actions.

Kit Harington as Jon Snow in Game of Thrones
It would be outrageous for us to leave Jon Snow’s luscious mane off of this list. Whether trekking through miles of snow or in the middle of a battle, Jon’s hair always looks impeccable. In fact, Snow has apparently inspired a new trend: man perms.

Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black
Hair is key to transforming Tatiana Maslany into a variety of clones in the show, Orphan Black. As Sarah, Tatiana wears a very cool, unkempt hairstyle that features one side of her hair braided. As Cosima, Tatiana’s hair is completely dreaded for a confident and alternative look. Each hairstyle really speaks to the different personalities of the characters.

Taraji P. Henson as Cookie Lyon in Empire
Cookie Lyon has quickly become a style icon on television. From her print dresses to her bold lipstick choices, makeup, hair and clothes are key to her character. Cookie’s hair is always voluptuously on point.
