Low-Level Laser Light Therapy for Hair Loss

What is Low-Level Laser Light Therapy?

Sometimes known as Photobiomodulation (PBM) or red light therapy, low-level laser light therapy is used to treat the genetic forms of hair loss common in men and women, androgenetic alopecia or pattern balding. It also has some evidence in scarring alopecias and telogen effluvium (shedding).

How does laser hair therapy work?

The exact mechanism by which low-level laser light therapy promotes hair growth is not fully understood. Research has identified that the laser light is absorbed into cells at multiple levels of the hair follicle, an important distinction from regular LED light, which hardly penetrates the skin’s surface. These specific laser light wavelengths trigger enhanced cellular activity, stimulating stem cells and extending the hair’s growth cycle. In other words, it makes aging cells more active, which, in-turn, can promote hair growth.

Here at the Limmer Hair Transplant Center, we offer two different devices for laser hair therapy – the Theradome and the Hairmax. Both offer very similar results and use similar technologies; however, the form factor of the devices is slightly different, which gives more flexibility to patients.

Theradome Laser Hair Growth Helmet

At the Limmer Hair Transplant Center, we offer the Theradome hair growth device. Decades of clinical trials and real-world experience support use of the Theradome helmet as a safe and effective hair loss treatment.

Previously solely available through medical clinics, with devices like the Theradome, patients can access the clinical-strength results of laser hair growth treatment in the privacy of their own home – no prescription required. The manufacturers recommend two 20-minute sessions per week with their hands-free, cordless device, ensuring hair loss treatments never burden your lifestyle.

Theradome has fused science, technology, and medicine to bring patients an elegant, simple hair loss device: a hair helmet that harnesses the power of laser light with the click of a button. Recommended by many hair experts, the next-generation Theradome PRO LH80 is an over-the-counter, at-home, competitively priced laser helmet designed to simplify your life while providing you with the ultimate solution to hair loss. The sooner you begin, the faster you’ll see results!

Hairmax® Laser Hair Regrowth System

hairmax laser light therapyThe Hairmax® laser hair regrowth system utilizes light to help stimulate hair growth while also increasing delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the hair follicles. With continued use, this device has been shown to help reverse thinning hair and energize and awaken weak or dormant hair follicles.

This device is very similar to the Theradome Laser Hair Growth Helmet; however it uses a different form factor that may be more comfortable to patients. Available in ball cap, band, and comb designs, Hairmax allows patients to choose the appropriate device for their needs. Hairmax products also deliver collimated laser light, which travels in a straight line into the scalp. This light is more focused and can penetrate the scalp to reach your follicles. In addition to the focused light, the Hairmax® device also uses teeth to part your hair for optimal laser light delivery and follicle stimulation.

Overall, either of these devices will provide laser light penetration to the scalp and follicles to help stimulate regrowth of your hair and reversal of hair thinning.
